MATERNAL HEALTH
HumaniTerra gives particular attention to women’s’ health and reproductive health.
For 10 years, the association has endeavoured to create a network of international practitioners and specialists able to intervene according to the needs and issues encountered in this field.
Thanks to this network, HumaniTerra has succeeded in providing assistance to the women of several countries: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, and Haiti. These dedicated surgeons and their teams also take action in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and in particular within the scope of projects concerning fistulas, reconstructive surgery, obstetrics, care during childbirth, post-partum care, and projects to combat infant and maternal mortality.

What is an obstetric fistula?
Fistula is a global problem, especially common in Africa. It usually occurs during prolonged labor, when a woman does not get the necessary Caesarean section.

PROGRAMME MANAGER
Doctor Jean Luc Chuzel is a Gynecologist-Labor and Delivery Doctor with surgical skills, specialized in gynecologic and mammary oncology. Clinic Director-Chief Resident in Lyon then Paris, and finally established his own practice in Aix-en-Provence. His experience in humanitarian medicine is varied: a first mission with Doctors without Borders in Sri Lanka in 1989 encouraged him to continue regular missions in Cambodia, Benin, Haiti, West Bank, Guinea Conakry, and in Burkina Faso for over ten years. Surrounded by a multi-disciplinary team, fistula and women-children project specialists, today Dr. Chuzel is responsible for the Reproductive Health Program at HumaniTerra.
